The strategic use of AI in organizations: A configurational approach based on TOE framework
Unclear Pathways to Strategic AI Use in Organizations. Many organizations struggle to extract value from AI despite significant investments.
Without understanding configurational enablers, firms may risk misallocating AI resources or failing to realize its benefits. Therefore, a comprehensive, evidence-based framework is needed to guide practice and policy.
This study used a survey method to collect data and then employed a configurational approach via fsQCA (Fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis) to analyze the data.
fsQCA yields multiple high-consistency pathways leading to strategic AI use. This study helps managers identify combinations of internal and external factors that can compensate for each other. It also offers a new lens for applying the TOE framework in research on strategic use of AI in organizations from a configurational perspective.
This study captures complex interdependencies and asymmetries by using fsQCA analysis. The results are more aligned with real-world decision-making.
